The Municipality of Kalamata undertakes new initiatives to support the PDO "Elia Kalamata". For this reason, a working meeting was held yesterday between the mayor of Kalamata Thanasis Vassilopoulos, the president of the Bar Association of Kalamata Periklis Xirogiannis and the secretary of SYMEPOP Giannis Paziou

During the meeting, issues related to the support of the product were discussed and actions that could be followed institutionally by the Municipality were examined, such as, for example, the registration of an international trademark and the protection of the use of the name "Kalamata".

Also, there was cooperation with the president of the Bar Association, in order to appoint a legal supporter in cooperation with SYMEPOP regarding the request for annulment of the Ministerial Decision of Apostolos.

In a statement after the meeting, the mayor noted: "It is important to mention that regarding this name, we are in discussions and preparing our actions, in order to defend by all means both the reputation and the use of the name" Kalamata ”, Which can only have a reference only in our area.

The moves we are preparing are related to the intellectual property we have in terms of the name, to the international registration of the trademark and the brand name and I want to believe that very soon we will have more to announce.

Also, in the context of the implementation of initiatives that we have undertaken and the relevant decision of the Municipal Council, we move in terms of supporting the bodies of the primary sector, in order to support the product and the interests of our producers ".

Finally, it should be noted that the mayor participated yesterday afternoon in a scheduled teleconference of the Regional Unit of Messinia on the subject of the PDO "Elia Kalamata".
