GAIA Newsletter 2019/4

Another year is coming to an end, and the volunteers of GAIA wish you happy holidays, good health and all the best for 2020.

The incidents we were called upon to deal with in 2019 were as follows:

Car accidents - 19

First aid - 53

Missing people rescued - 7

Fires - 12

Animals rescued - 12

Intervention due to bad weather - 8

Humanitarian support / solidarity - We offered food, clothing, shoes, books and toys to 125 families, and paramedic items to 32 people.

Collaboration with the following associations and foundations, providing humanitarian assistance -

"Child and Creation" - paramedic items, clothing, medicines and personal care and hygiene items

"Froditha" (care) - food and personal care and hygiene items

"A Child Counts the Stars" - collection and donation of plastic bottle tops to support the purchase of wheelchairs

"" - blankets and home supplies for refugees/unaccompanied children hosted in Kalamata

Our progress in 2019 - We received an inflatable rescue boat for use in sea rescue.It is not yet operational, as repairs have first to be carried out.

On-going training of our active volunteers in rescue work - with our rescue dogs, in collaboration with the Air Force School (survival at sea), upgrading of our operator's driving licence for our drone.
