Text messages and typed or hand-written notes will once more become part of the everyday life in Greece, after PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Thursday a three-week nationwide lockdown, beginning Saturday 7 November at 6.00 AM.

Under the new rules, only those going to or from their workplace, shopping for food or medicine, visiting a doctor or pharmacy, taking brief exercise or walking their pet will be allowed to leave their homes.

The measures, aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, will be in place until November 30.

In order to leave home, people must carry a police ID or a passport with them, and a form which stipulates one of the approved reasons to be out.

The easiest and most popular option is sending a text message to 13033. In the body of the text, you must note any of six reasons (1 to 6), leave a space, add your name, then your home address. (Directions for this process are also to be found on forma.gov.gr.)
